PATTERN
For News (co-branding project)
"We Share"

What is it?

Every day I take an image from the news that I find significant. Using digital graphics manipulations I transform an excerpt of the original image into a repeatable, slightly hypnotic pattern to be postered around town, featuring a sponsor's logo and addresses of associated virtual and street level spaces.. The logo leads intrigued observers to the sponsor's site where the will be a special page dedicated to the day's pattern.

There are two main components: the daily postering campaign,  the webpage with a cross-media resonant archive on the event originally pictured.

There are many levels of experience:  The Art Space: the gallery or other neutral space will provide a space conducive to slow contemplation.  Cyberspace links individuals, governments, the corporate, their perspectives, reactions.   The Street a shared space where anonymity meets a friend by accident. Broad- and narrowcast/Press:  wild and brilliant informational offshoots.  Documentation of all these levels will deepen the work.

Why is it?

People are overloaded with news. News elicits strong emotions which are not usually discussed or otherwise metabolized adequately. The result is a general malaise and possibly alienation or paranoia…this projects attempts to create an analogue media space connecting the street to the mediasphere, where a single news event may be given the pause it deserves for contemplation and feeling.

Who am I?

Born urbanite, multi-media artist and corporate communications trainer, I have created work for over 10 years exploring the psychics and metaphysics of mass-media.
